Sunday saw the GT Challenge race for 20 laps on South Track. Crowds gathered on the viewing deck or tuned in to the Autobahn livestream to catch all the action. And there was plenty of action. With 26 beautiful cars taking the green flag, the series continues to grow. With the front row stacked with Porsche Cup cars, Aaron Zeigler in his GTU 992.2 Cup car managed pole position over Tom Herb GT1, Kevin Laughridge GT1 and Bill Keeley GT1. As the green flag dropped the battle started for the GT2 drivers, David Calzada and Charley Margosian. Calzada had his monster miata dialed in as he was able to hold off the onslaught of attempts from Margosian to take the top spot on the podium. In GT3, the on going battle between Bob Noorian’s Porsche and the vivacious V8 of Tom Prokop, but this time Bob was victorious. GT4 was a battle of the BMW’s. Val Gauryluis held off his buddy, Sean Venckevicius after some intense fighting in the first few laps and Scott Bening Sr, rounded out the top 3. Things were better for Josh Dale on Sunday because he was able to win in GT5 with his MX5 over Mike Keck’s Porsche 944. Andrew Talandzevicus fresh off his European vacation brought home a new souvenir from Autobahn in the form of a 3rd place trophy.
Sunday also held our second Wings-n-Things and Radical Cup race. Fields have been growing in this series but the devastating fire at Havoc meant some cars were missing. The young gun, Charley Morrall went from green flag to checkered flag winning in the Wings-n-Things class with his Pro Mazda. In the 1340cc Radical Cup series, Jerry Liu defeated his friend, Wenli Zhao after some great back and forth on the race track, just showing the sportsmanship and camaraderie these drivers have. Ben Blander had to pit mid race for some adjustments but when he came back out, he was a man on a mission. Blander managed to pass 6 other cars to reel in the 3 spot on the podium.
Our next race will be for Festival of Speed and you won’t want to miss it!
