This past Saturday you couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day to go racing. The temperature was perfect and not a cloud in the sky as we hosted a Wings and Things Double Header on North Track. There was a record-breaking number of cars that went out for qualifying, however Pete Dale broke his rear axel in his Rush SR causing a cascading effect for the other Rush drivers. Kamil Kopko lost the rear end exiting North 1 resulting in light contact with the wall. The fast-working mechanics at Havoc Motorsports were able to reassemble Kamil’s car and get him ready for race #1. Ben Blander piloting his Wolf Xtreme knabbed pole position with his best lap time of 54.6 seconds. Brandon Schwarz secured second position in his F3 with a fastest lap time of 58.632 barely beating Chris Dimuzio’s 58.696.
Race 1 was full of action. After the green flag, Blander predictably pulled away from the field although on lap 2, Kamil Kopko spun out of North 1 and impacted the wall in North 2 causing a full course caution. After the dust settled, the field went back to green, although after a few laps a strange noise emanating from his Radical and he soon retired early. With 2 laps remaining, Ben Blander’s lead was cut short due to running out of fuel which gave Brandon Schwarz the opportunity to take the podium with Chris Dimuzio in second and newcomer, Charley Morrall having his first ever Wings and Things podium in 3rd place.
Race 2 saw a slightly smaller field. The grid was lined up according to their fastest lap in the previous race so once again Ben Blander was on pole, this time with enough fuel to finish the race, which he did landing him on the top step of the podium. Brandon Schwarz dominated the other F3’s with a fastest lap of 58.581 and locked in second place. Chris Dimuzio fought off the youngster Charley Morrall to secure third place. Morrall had an impressive drive after a short battle with Derek LaManna to claim 4th place and LaManna in 5th. Wenli Zhao battled his Radical brethren of John Mikulski and beating out Mikulski after making an impressive pass before the checkered flag.
