Race Review: SM2

Jun 5, 2026 | Current, Member Racing

Our SM2 class rounded out our day, and month of racing, with 28 cars raring for 20 laps of battle. Mark Stadalsky started on pole with a 1:13.114, three hundredths ahead of Noel Saks in second, both of whom setting times that would have split 17th and 18th in the Spec Miata class qualifying. On the second row, we had our fastest SM2 rookie of Dean Schilling rolling off the grid third, with Jeff Neumann alongside him in fourth, looking for redemption after a last lap incident from three weeks before.

The race went green as our SM2 field kept the race start respectful but competitive keeping us incident free at the start. In the races first half, we had moves for position up and down the field, but not for the P1, as Mark Stadalsky opened the gap to over a second ahead of his competitors behind him, as Jeff Neumann, Dean Schilling, and Emmet Ryan stayed within three seconds of race leader Stadalsky. Entering lap 14, Dean Schilling tried to go for a pass on Jeff Neumann at turn one for second, but ended up losing control of his car, spinning off track, giving us our first full course yellow of this weekend’s races. Once Dean Schilling’s #172 was safely positioned off the track, our 25 remaining SM2 drivers had a two lap dash for potential SM2 victory. On the race’s penultimate lap, the other Schilling of Gavin Schilling had come to a stop near turn six, causing another full course yellow as the drivers reached the incident on the final lap of the race. When the checkered flag finally flew, your podium was the following: 1st- Mark Stadalsky, 2nd- Jeff Neumann and 3rd place was Joe Miklos. Our next race will be held on June 27th with a Spec Miata Double Header and on the following day, June 28, we will have a GT Challenge race both held on South Track. We’ll see you for the next one!
