Autobahn Corner Workers Always at the Ready!

This past weekend showed the importance and need to always be ready. During the Champcar race weekend, a C4 Corvette caught fire after exiting South 11. The driver was able to stop the car at the South 13 corner station, however he became trapped in his car since the door would not open. While others froze in disbelief, Autobahn’s corner worker, Theron Kelley sprinted toward the inferno with nothing but his fire extinguisher and training to guide him. Thick black smoke poured from the cockpit as the driver struggled to release his harness, trapped inside the rapidly growing fire. Without hesitation, Theron reached through the billowing smoke, and helped free the trapped racer by pulling him out the window and saving him from the inferno. Seconds after pulling the driver to safety behind the wall, the Corvette was completely engulfed. Thanks to Theron’s courage, quick thinking, and selfless determination, what could have been a tragedy became a story of heroism that everyone at the track would remember. For the driver whose life he saved, Theron was more than a corner worker that day—he was a guardian angel. While we praise Theron, it also serves as a reminder that incidents can happen at any time, so everyone should always be at the ready!
