USF Pro 2000 presented by Cooper Tires rookie driver Christian Weir continues to increase his experience and knowledge after every racing round. Weir, who was a standout driver in the USF2000 Championship presented by Cooper Tires last year, has leveled up this season and is proving he absorbs and applies knowledge quickly over race weekends.
While competing at Sebring International Raceway this past weekend in rounds three and four of the season, Weir only increased his place on track from start to finish in each race.
“We haven’t had much time at this track testing in the off-season compared to the rest of our competitors,” explained Weir. “So, to be able to only increase my position on track is huge. This track is notorious for having a lot of yellow flags so I’m hoping we won’t have to deal with too many and I can work my way forward.”
Weir managed to maneuver through the field, avoiding various close calls of contact, and increased his position by four places in race one, finishing among the top-ten drivers in the field. Steering his way through the treacherous dust clouds from drivers kicking up rocks and dirt on the side of the track by going both two and four wheels off in front of him, Christian still managed to gain three places in race two to complete the full race distance and more knowledge for the memory bank and future events.
At the end of the weekend, Weir concluded, “Our result was a little lower than what we would have liked to be at, but I’m proud of the race we just had and the overall weekend. We’re getting better as the season progresses. I’m learning the car and am very comfortable with the team’s strategy so we’re hoping for better results at our next event in Indianapolis.”
Christian Weir drove from 16th to 13th in race two after a solid drive on Saturday that saw him drive from 14th to tenth on the results sheets and left the Sebring International Raceway tied for 13th in the championship point standings.
Christian Weir, along with TJ Speed Motorsports, will continue their 2023 journey in the USF Pro 2000 presented by Cooper Tires on the Grand Prix Circuit of the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the month of May. The road course includes 14 turns along a 2.4-mile circuit, where Weir has an impressive track record. Rounds five and six of the 2023 season will take place May 11th through the 13th.
