As the youngest driver in the field at 15 years of age, Christian Weir was able to demonstrate his on-track abilities against new drivers in the Cayman category of Porsche Sprint Challenge North America by Yokohama. Christian’s background is in open wheel cars, most notably the USF2000 championship cars as part of the Road To Indy Championships. Far from a USF2000, Christian welcomed the challenge of getting oriented in a new car.
The Porsche Sprint Challenge North America by Yokohama season opener marked Christian’s first race in a GT-style race car. Driving the MDK Racing #23 718 Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport Type 982, Christian qualified fifth for Race One and challenged for a podium finish before ultimately finishing fifth in the race.
For Race Two, Christian started from the sixth position. After passing three competitors in the first half of the race, Christian settled into third position and began to run down the leaders. At the end of Race Two, Christian was able to secure his first podium in the series as the youngest driver by finishing third. Congratulations on a great result, Christian!
