Colin Kaminsky will climb to INDY NXT by Firestone this season, driving the No. 57 Slick Locks Dallara fielded by Abel Motorsports.
Kaminsky, 23, from Homer Glen, Illinois, joins the Abel Motorsports team after an impressive showing in a partial 2022 USF Pro 2000 season that saw him score three podium finishes, at Barber Motorsports Park and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Kaminsky had two successful test days with Abel, blazing his path to the seat. “I’m extremely excited to have joined Abel Motorsports for the 2023 INDY NXT by Firestone season,” Kaminsky said. “Bill (Abel) has put together a sensational team, who all have years of experience in the series dating back over 20 years. This really reassures me that I’m with a team capable of winning and competing at a high level. “On top of that, they all have big personalities and make the environment a blast to be around.”
The INDY NXT season starts Sunday, March 5 on the Streets of St. Petersburg, Florida. “This will be my first season in INDY NXT by Firestone so I’m trying to learn as much as I can and compete to the best of my ability,” Kaminsky said. “This is the perfect spot for me to further ignite my ambitions of making it to the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, and I can’t wait to get the ball rolling in St. Petersburg. Let’s ride.”
Kaminsky is a veteran of the lower two rungs in the development path toward the NTT INDYCAR SERIES. He raced in USF Pro 2000 from 2020-22 after competing in the USF2000 championship from 2017-19.
“We are really excited to have Colin join Abel Motorsports for the 2023 INDY NXT by Firestone season,” Abel Motorsports owner Bill Abel said. “Colin tested very well last summer in his first outing in our car, and he followed that up with a great test at Homestead in January. His talent, experience, and methodical approach will be a great addition to our driver roster.”
